Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!!

It was our first Halloween as a family
And oh the fun we had!

I have always been a huge fan of Halloween
but it is even more fun when you have
a kid to celebrate with!

I will post more about it tomorrow
But for now I will leave you with this.

From the eyes of a four year old

B LOVES taking pictures.
This is most of the reason my camera is in the shape that it is
But who am I to deprive him of a little fun
I loving seeing things from his perspective

Sakari {our dog} is his favorite model

A little glimpse of the world through his eyes.

Warning: This is a little gross!!

I had a bit of a mishap with a pumpkin yesterday.
B had just got home from school
and it was one of his nap free days.
So I desperately needed something to do
before dinner to avid a meltdown.

I thought it would be a good time to carve our pumpkin.
It started out well, we got the top off no problem.
But when we were taking turns getting all of the pulp out
A pumpkin seed slipped way under my nail and impaled me.

{If you read my honest scrap post you will know that weird things like this just seem to happen to me, a lot}

It hurt really bad,
like when anything is shoved to far under your fingernail,
but we finished the pumpkin.
I stupidly forgot about it and started cooking dinner.
I woke up this morning and my pointer finger (the one I use the most)
was twice the size of the one on the other hand.
It is infected and I am so sad with myself
for letting something so silly happen.
I should have soaked it in peroxide
but no, I let it go and now I am typing with nine fingers.
I tried to do a little surgery to alleviate some of the pressure
and avoid a trip to the doctor but it was unsuccessful.
I will spare you to the details.

So now I will have to face the embarrassment
and explain to the doctor how I got into this predicament.
I wonder if they see a lot of pumpkin attacks this time of year?
Nasty, right?

Honest Scrap!

This is my first award ever and its from Welcome to the Nut House. Thanks Mama! She awarded me with the Honest Scrap award given to others whose blogs you find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged you. How sweet is that?

This award comes with some rules as well:

1) Must thank the person who gave the award and list their blog and link it.
2) Share "10 Honest Things" about yourself.
3) Present this award to 7 others whose blogs you find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged you.
4) Tell those 7 people they've been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving the award.

10 Honest things about myself:

1. I am a student. I am going to school for nursing and I still have a bout another two years! How is that even possible. I feel like I have been in school forever.

2. I can't drink caffeine. It makes my heart feel like it is beating out of my chest. So I drink juice and decaf tea.

3. I try to buy organic everything. Some people think I am crazy for how picky we are about what we eat, but I figure that's what keeps us healthy so its a worthy investment.

4. I spend to much time on the Internet. I am working on this. There are just do may blogs to read and so little time.

5. We don't have TV. Well that's a lie. We do have a TV, just no channels not one. We can watch movies though. And I do have a few shows that I watch on-line.

6. I am very sensitive. I have gotten much better about this in recent years but I do cry pretty easily.

7. I am a terrible speller. I am sure if you have read my blog you will notice that I am constantly making spelling errors. I am dyslexic so as much as I try I still can't spell.

8. I wrestled in high school. My freshman year me and one other girl wrestled on the boys team and my sophomore year we started a girls team. We had about ten girls and went to tournament all over. It was really fun.

9. I am very accident prone. I get hurt all the time. And when ever something is wrong with me it is always something really odd. Doctors are always like "I have never seen that before" I don't know why this always happens but it does.

10. I love camping. I don't go nearly as much as I would like because no one in my family is as excited about it as me, but living in the city I feel like I need a retreat from time to time.

So that is my Honest Scrap.

And now to nominate 7 other bloggers:

1. Tara

2. Andi-bo-bandi

3. RB

4. The Popes

5. Sara

6. Kristina

7. Karen

ooh ooh ahh ahh!!

When B told me he wanted to be a monkey for Halloween
I thought Easy
There must be a million cute monkey costumes out there
So I looked on line and saw a few that were pretty cute
I was about to order one when B changed his mind
SO I waited to give him some time to figure out what he wanted to be
I thought worst case I could buy a monkey costume at a Halloween store or something
Weeks went by and everyday he had a different idea of what he wanted to be
Fast forward to this weekend
B finally decided that he DID want to be a monkey after all
So out we went to every store under the sun looking for a Monkey costume
Apparently there are not many 4 year old boys that don't want to be a superhero
Because that is all any store seemed to have in his size
I am sure I could have sold him on the Spiderman costume if I really wanted to
But the truth is I was kinda happy he wanted to be a monkey
So last night I accepted that we were not going to find a monkey costume
after dragging a very tired 4 year old in way to many stores
And I decided to make one
This may not seem to hard to those of you who are good sewers
But I am not so this was my frist real project
Mind you my sewing machine is older then me
Its one of those big ones attached to a table
Any after a few stressful hours the costume was complete
I am so proud of myself
I just had to share!

Naps and Muffins!!!!

B has been on a napping strike lately
I know he is at the age where naps are coming to an end
There are many kids his ages that can do without
But his boy still desperately needs a nap
When he is at home its no problem
he goes right sleep, but at school....
...now that's a different story. But all weekend he assured me
that he would take a nap at school on Monday

And sure enough when I went to pick him up today
He ran to me screaming about his NAP!!!
I was so happy I felt it warranted a special treat
I dug through my bag
(usually there is something treat like in there)
but I didn't have anything
So I took him to whole foods
and told him he could pick out what ever he wanted
He settled on a corn muffin?!?!
Really, a corn muffin?
Hey, if that's what you want then its all yours
So we took his muffin to the playground and celebrated

Not me Monday!

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I did NOT wake up this morning
to find B had been up for a few minutes before me
And he did NOT use that time to quietly
go through my clean laundry
and put on my sports bra and jeans

Oh no I would never get up AFTER my four year old!

Considering that I had to put a baby lock on the fridge last week
after he woke up in the middle of the night, and decided he was hungry.
Got a jar of peanut butter from the fridge
and used his drum as a stool to get on the counter
And grabbed a loaf of bread to go with the peanut butter
And used his hands to scoop out the Peanut butter and put it on his bread
Then he put everything back were he had found it.
I might not have noticed if it weren't for the peanut butter
that he wiped all over his pj's when he was done
I went to the fridge to see the damage and the WHOLE jar was empty.
With nothing left but little finger groves.
That's a lot of peanut butter!!!
At least he cleaned up after himself :)

When you give a boy a t-shirt

My dad bought B this awesome shirt
a few weeks back
It has Ganesha printed on the front
(the remover of obstacles )
B loved it but what he loved even more
was the paper bag it came in.

Go figure.
I wish I still got this much joy
out of wearing a paper bag on my head.

A New Camera... A girl can dream

Everytime I take a picture
Which is a whole lot around here
I think about how I want a new camera.
I have a point and shoot that is about five years old.
When you turn it on the lens cover gets stuck shut
and you have to manually open it with the tip of your finger
This has lead to my lens often being dirty
and maybe even a bit scratched.

I love taking pictures
but I would love taking them so much more
If I had a camera that was a little better
(like an SLR)
I said a girl can dream right?
As of now that is simply not in our budget
Considering all I really use it for

is following B around like the paparazzi

I guess I will just have to keep
Editing the heck out of our pictures
Until one magically appears
(again dreaming)
For now his cuteness will have to make up of my lack of equipment.

Big Kid Wearing Mama

We live in a city so we walk as much as we can.
Our favorite playground is
12 blocks there and 12 blocks back
Whole Foods is about the same.
B could walk these distances if I really pushed it
But it is far for him.
So most of the time I put him in his "back pack"
And he is a big fan.
I also like him so close to me too.
It is a good bonding experience and
it makes or trips so much less stressful
which is good all around for everyone.

We mainly use our Ergo, now.
For younger babies and short trips
I think there might me some better options
but as soon as your baby gets heaver
and you have to wear them for a longer period of time
We have found this to be the most comfortable.
We have others but this one just fits the two of us the best at this stage.
B is a small 4 year old.
He is about 30 lbs.
And 35" tall

I also love our beco.
I just don't use as much because of how big B is.
I feel like it would be much better then the Ergo for a smaller baby
It is super easy to get a baby on your back
if your not that comfortable with back carry's.
Oh and the Beco's have much nicer prints to choose from
Which is a big plus for me!

I also have a Connecta which I adore.
I think the shoulder straps are more comfortable then the Beco or Ergo's
The only reason we don't use this all of the time is
Ours doesn't have a padded waist
I think it would be fine with out it
until your child is a toddler but carrying
a four year old without it is not really working for us.
You can by the support belt for about $20, but I keep forgetting.
I am sure it would be my #1 favorite if I had one though.

Some times I get comments from strangers about how
he is to old to be carried
Or he must be breaking my back.Ect....
But it is what is best for our family right now
and that is what I am concerned with.

Not me monday!

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

So I can't believe it is Monday again! Where did last week go? Well lets see what I DON'T have to be embarrassed about this week. For starters, I did not let my son eat way to much sugar this weekend, which I never do. And then act confused and surprised when he started behaving like a complete maniac after crashing from the sugar that his little body is not used to having. And after this weekends meltdowns I definitely learned my lesson and do NOT let him eat a huge cupcake at our playgroup right before we went home for nap time. Oh no Not Me. I always feed my child healthy food and I know how he acts when he has too much sugar so why would I do this to myself or him. I wouldn't, right? Then when we got home from our play group and he was bouncing off the walls I didn't not have to raise my voice to get him in bed for his nap. I would never do that, how could anyone go to sleep when you just yelled at them? I am always very soothing when I am getting B to sleep, I would never do that. Oh no NOT me!!

School Days

I am so glad that B loves school as much as he does.
I really wasn't sure going into it how he would do,
but it turns out that he just loves it.

He was sick last week and missed two days
and he more concerned about missing school
then he was about the fact he was sick.
I hope he always feels this way.

Field Trippin'

Since the start of the school year
We have already been on quite a few field trips
I am really enjoying and looking forward to these
(maybe even more then B)
It's nice to hang out to spend time with
his teachers outside of school
I am also enjoying meeting the parents
of the kids B talks endlessly about
And its nice having some else plan activity's for a change.

Today we went to the orchard.
We started off on a hayride

Then we got to see the animals
There were goats, ostriches, horses, ducks and sheep.
And lots of snuggles all around!
